In Phase I the PROJECT DISCOVERY writing students
prepared a script for production. Professor Neipris;
co-creators of PROJECT DISCOVERY, Executive Producer
John A. McQuiggan and Producer Daniel Rosenbloom;
and Winnie Holzman, Special Consultant for Phase I
(writer-producer of "thirty-something" and creator-writer of
"My So-Called Life"), all felt that the extraordinary quality
and quantity of the applications highly qualified the
student body to create an original, thirty-minute teleplay
for PROJECT DISCOVERY. The course of Phase I followed a
schedule carefully designed to maximize the participation
of each of the students individually while also requiring
them to co-create with their classmates by working in
smaller groups as script- writing teams (see PHASE I SCHEDULE AND TEACHING PLAN). The students were
given parameters for the action, and each team
produced its own script. The authors of the teleplay chosen
for production have been invited back as executive
producing students for Phase II.
